Walk: The Shireburn, River Ribble, Tolkien Trail, Jumbles Rocks, Winckley Hall, Knowles Brow, Stonyhurst College
Start Point: Hurst Green Village Hall Grid Reference: SD 684 382
Distance: 5.4 miles Ascent: 371 feet
Time: 2 hours
Weather: Warm and windy
Comments: Not having done this path for a while I was surprised to find that the path through the fields and woodland between The Shireburn and the footbridge now have a stony covering. It seems a shame to have disfigured the fields but it was needed through the woodland where it was always muddy and steep. After leaving the artificial grass covering it was a very pleasant walk beside the River Ribble, passing the confluences of the Ribble and Calder and then the Ribble and Hodder.
